A study room in Vastu should support concentration, memory, and learning. Direction of the room and placement of the study table matter. This guide covers ideal location, desk placement, colors, and simple remedies.
The west is often considered the best direction for a study room—it is linked to focus and analytical thinking. The north-east is also favourable for learning and clarity. The east brings morning light and supports new ideas. Avoid the south-west for a study (better for master bedroom). Keep the north-east part of the study room light, open, and clutter-free.
Place the study table so the student faces east or north while studying—this is said to support concentration and memory. The table should be against a solid wall; avoid having the back to the door. Do not place the desk in the centre of the room. Keep book racks or shelves in the north or east; avoid blocking the north-east corner with heavy furniture.
A study room of about 10×10 to 10×12 feet is enough for one person. For two people or a shared study, 12×12 feet works. Ensure good natural light, especially from the east or north. Regular rectangular shape is preferred.
Use calm, light colors: white, cream, light green, or very light blue. These support focus without overstimulation. Avoid very bright red, orange, or dark shades. Matte finishes are better than glossy. Keep the space tidy and well-lit.
If the study room cannot be in the west or north-east, at least ensure the study table faces east or north. Keep the north-east corner of the room open; a small plant or lamp there can help. Avoid placing the bed in the same room if possible—sleep and study energies are different.
